Grok Bot vs n8n is really a question of how you want work done. Grok Bot is an AI agent: you describe the job and your Bots do it on a persistent cloud computer with a browser, a command line and files. n8n is a workflow builder: you draw each step on a visual canvas and it runs the same way every time. Below I compare them using only the official docs, checked on 5 November 2026, and show how to connect the two with one webhook. My video is right under this intro.
Key takeaways
- Grok Bot: describe the outcome; the Bot works it out on a shared cloud computer.
- n8n: you design every step on a canvas, with 1500+ integrations.
- n8n is fair-code under its own Sustainable Use License, and you can self-host it.
- They connect: an n8n HTTP Request can POST to a Grok Bot routine’s webhook.

The short answer
Pick n8n when you know the exact steps and want them to run the same way every time. Pick Grok Bot when the job needs judgement: reading pages, deciding what matters and writing it up.
| Grok Bot | n8n | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | A hosted AI agent | A workflow automation platform for AI agents and workflows |
| How you build | Describe the job in chat, then save it as a skill or routine | Drag nodes onto a visual canvas, plus JavaScript or Python when needed |
| Where it runs | One persistent cloud computer shared by your Bots; each Bot gets its own screen | Self-hosted or n8n’s cloud |
| Integrations | Connected apps plus a browser that signs in to sites | 1500+ integrations and 9,000+ workflow templates |
| Licence | Hosted service | Fair-code: Sustainable Use License and n8n Enterprise License |
How Grok Bot works
The computer docs describe one computer shared by all your Bots. Each Bot gets its own screen on it, and work keeps going with your laptop closed.
You teach a Bot by doing the job once in chat, then saving the process as a skill. A routine tells a Bot when to run it: on a schedule, or when a Slack, GitHub, Linear, Sentry or PagerDuty event, an email, or a webhook call arrives.
Risky actions sit behind approvals, so you choose what runs without asking.

How n8n works
The n8n README calls it a fair-code platform to build and deploy AI agents and workflows. You combine a visual canvas with custom code, run it self-hosted or in the cloud, and connect to 1500+ integrations.
- Connect OpenAI, Anthropic, Google or open-source models and switch providers.
- Add logic, tool use and human approvals to multi-step AI workflows.
- Write JavaScript or Python, or use npm packages, when a node isn’t enough.
Every run follows the path you drew, which is what makes it predictable.
Licence and hosting
n8n is fair-code under its Sustainable Use License, with an n8n Enterprise License for some features. The licence lets you use and modify it for your own internal business purposes or for non-commercial or personal use. Read the licence page before you resell anything built on it.
Grok Bot is a hosted service from xAI. There’s nothing to install on a server; your Bots run on their cloud computer.
How to connect Grok Bot and n8n
You don’t have to choose. A Grok Bot routine can have a webhook trigger. Open the routine on desktop and the Webhook section shows:
- POST to: the URL.
- key: the secret, sent as
Authorization: Bearer <key>. - header: the full header, ready to copy.
In n8n, add an HTTP Request node that POSTs to that URL with the header and a JSON body. The Bot gets the body with the routine instruction. A 200 means the run started, not finished; the result shows in the Bot’s chat.
Going the other way, n8n’s Webhook node gives you a URL that starts a workflow, so anything that can send an HTTP request can kick off an n8n flow.

Which one for a small business?
- n8n: copy form leads into a CRM, send a welcome email, post a Slack alert. Fixed steps, run every time.
- Grok Bot: research a new lead’s website, check a supplier portal, draft a reply that needs judgement.
- Both: n8n catches the new lead, then calls a Grok Bot routine to research it and draft the follow-up.
Start with the one that matches your first job, then add the other through a webhook.
My verdict
Use n8n for the steps you can draw and Grok Bot for the work that needs thinking, and link them with one webhook routine. That’s my answer to Grok Bot vs n8n.
