When I started my first website a few years ago, I was really struggling. I was sitting down all day, writing content, publishing content, and not seeing any results or any rewards from Google.
At one point, I thought Google just didn’t like me, like it had something personal against me. I spent weeks trying to figure out what the difference was between me and my friends, who I knew were getting results with Google and SEO.
The biggest difference was, I was spending 80% of my time creating content and 20% promoting it. They reversed it and spent 80% of their time promoting content and 20% creating it. That was what was getting them those results.
Focus More On Promotion
If you don’t get eyeballs on your content, then all the time and hard work, all the energy that you put into your content will not be seen.
The problem is that Google looks for these external ways of validating that your content is credible. If Google sees no one’s reading this content and no one’s engaging with it, it can’t be good content.
So, what do you need to do? You need to start reaching out to other websites and trying to promote your content. The biggest difference between you and your competitors, if you’re not getting traffic, is probably going to be down to something called backlinks.
SEO Mistake #2 Not Building Backlinks
Ahrefs recently did a study, they found that out of a billion websites, 90% of the content isn’t getting any traffic. The reason for this is that most of these websites are not getting backlinked. But, the beauty is that if you can build a good process for this now, you will have a competitive edge over the others.
You still need to be publishing high-quality content and you need to be pumping out those articles, targeting low competition, high volume keywords. But, link building is going to fuel all of those efforts for your website.
You can have the best car in the world, but if you don’t put any fuel in it, then that car isn’t going to go anywhere. So, you’ve got your content, now fuel it with backlinks. And that’s when you’ll see results off Google.

You can go onto Fiverr, and you can buy like a thousand backlinks and get those inserted literally in 24 hours. But, that’s not going to help you. That’s not real promotion, and you’re not really building anything by doing this.
In fact, the other benefit of building backlinks and promoting your content is that you’re building relationships with other websites in your industry. This can be a powerful affiliation in the future, leading to affiliate partnerships or other backlinks.
