Grok Bot email gives your Bots one shared inbox. You claim one address at mail.grokbot.com, and every one of your Bots can use it to receive, read, search and send mail. That means a Bot can sign up for a service, grab the verification code, collect your receipts and run a routine the moment an email lands. In the video below I show how I use Grok Bot to run inbox, content and research work for my business. Here’s exactly how the Bot’s email works, from xAI’s official docs.
Key takeaways
- One address at mail.grokbot.com, shared by all your Bots.
- Plus aliases like name+receipts@ land in the same inbox.
- Email can start a routine, filtered by sender or domain.
- Mail from routines waits as a draft until you press Send.

What Grok Bot email is
The computer and apps guide says you can claim one email address at mail.grokbot.com, such as yourname@mail.grokbot.com, for your Bots to use. With it, a Bot can:
- Sign up for services with your Bot email address and pick up the verification code or link, with your OK.
- Collect receipts, newsletters and reports, and summarise them for you.
- Draft email for you, like a digest or an update, and draft replies.
- Forward an email from its inbox with the original formatting, images and attachments (Grok Bot 0.75.2 or later).
- Run a routine when email arrives, optionally only from specific senders.
This is the Bot’s inbox, not yours. Your own Gmail or Outlook stays separate unless you connect it as an app.
How to claim your Grok Bot email address
There are two ways to do it.
- Ask a Bot. Type “Get yourself an email address.” It asks what name you want, checks the name is free and shows an approval card. Nothing is claimed until you approve.
- Do it in the app. Open Connect apps, choose Email, type a name under Choose a name and choose Create address. On iPhone and Android it’s Settings → Connect apps → Email.
Pick the name carefully. You get one address for good: you can’t rename or delete it, and addresses are never reissued. Names use lowercase letters, digits, dots, hyphens and underscores, up to 64 characters, and reserved words like support, admin, billing, help, info, team, grok and xai aren’t allowed.

Plus aliases: one inbox, many labels
Your address takes plus aliases. Mail to yourname+receipts@mail.grokbot.com lands in the same inbox as the plain address, so you can give every service its own alias without claiming a second address.
A Bot can send from an alias too. A routine that watches an alias runs only for mail sent to that alias, while a routine on the plain address runs for all of it. One warning from the docs: an alias is a label, not a lock. Anyone can write to it, so keep a sender filter on any routine that should only act for certain senders.
Run a routine when email arrives
New mail doesn’t start a chat or wake a Bot on its own. To act on it, you set up a routine. The routines guide lists email to your Bot’s own address as a trigger, next to Slack, GitHub, Linear, Sentry, PagerDuty and webhooks.
- Watch for mail from anyone, from specific addresses, or from a whole domain such as
*@example.com. - By default the routine only runs for mail from senders that pass standard email authentication checks.
- Routines can’t filter by subject, so filter by sender or alias instead.
- Only new mail counts. Emails from before the trigger existed don’t start a run.
A strong setup: give your bookkeeping tool the alias name+invoices@, then add a routine on that alias that files each invoice in a sheet and sends you a weekly summary.
Sending email: what goes out and what waits
This is where Grok Bot plays it safe, and you should know the rules before you rely on it.
| Situation | What happens |
|---|---|
| You ask a Bot in chat to send an email | It sends once Auto Review allows it, or you see an approval card first |
| A routine or incoming mail leads to an email | It waits as a draft until you press Send |
| A forward, or an attachment Auto Review can’t fully read | Always waits for your OK |
| You also connected Gmail or Outlook | The Bot asks which account to send from |
There’s no option for unattended sending. The approvals guide confirms it: email from work you didn’t start with that request waits as a draft. If a card raised by a routine gets no answer, it expires after 30 minutes.

Safety: email is information, not instructions
Anyone can send mail to the address, which is exactly why the safety rules matter. According to the docs:
- A Bot treats email from other people as information, not instructions. Instructions inside an email never count as your permission to send or act.
- Every message it reads is marked as from you or from someone else.
- Mail that fails the spam or virus scan is kept without its body or attachments, and it never starts a routine.
So a stranger can’t email your Bot and tell it to wire money or forward your files.
Limits to know
| Limit | Value |
|---|---|
| Recipients per email | Up to 50 across To, Cc and Bcc |
| Attachments, sending | Up to 10, 10 MB each, 25 MB in total, no executables |
| Attachments, receiving | Up to 10, 10 MB each, 25 MB in total; extras are skipped |
| Newsletters and first-contact emails | One recipient per message, with a one-click unsubscribe link |
| Bounces, unsubscribes, spam reports | The Bot stops emailing that address and tells you who it skipped |
There’s also no inbox view and no new-mail notifications, so you ask: “What arrived in your inbox today?” Mail from the last minute may not show in a search yet. If you delete your Grok Bot account, the mail is deleted and the address is retired.
Grok Bot email on a team
Your address is yours, not one Bot’s. All your Bots can use it in your own chats and routines, but it isn’t used in Slack threads or in chats where someone else is talking to the Bot, and a shared Bot doesn’t get a team address.
On a Cursor team, the Teams and Enterprises guide says Agent Email sits under Bot Capabilities on the Grok Bot page and is off by default. Members get no email tools until an admin turns it on. Turning it off later removes the Bots’ email tools and stops email routines, but existing addresses keep receiving mail.
What changed in v0.78.1
The 27 October 2026 changelog added two email fixes: Bot emails retry once when the mail server connection times out, and Gmail drafts the Bot writes in plain text now open in rich text, so they read well on a phone. Gmail drafts and sends can also attach a file from the Bot’s computer in more cases.
My verdict
Grok Bot email is the feature that turns a chat assistant into something that runs your admin. Claim one good name, give each service its own alias, add sender filters to every routine, and keep sending on approval. That’s the setup I’d give any small business.
