Grok Bot templates let you copy a working Bot instead of building one from scratch. You can share your own Bot as a template, import someone else’s from the gallery, or start a ready-made job like the subscription templates added on 27 October 2026. In the video below I show 10 Grok Bots that make it far more useful. Here’s how templates work, what they include, and what to strip out before you share one, from xAI’s official docs.
Key takeaways
- A template is a copy of a Bot: identity, description, skills and routines.
- It never includes your computer, logins or conversation history.
- Browse the gallery: Connect apps → Bot templates.
- New in v0.78.1: three subscription templates.

What Grok Bot templates are
There are two kinds of templates in Grok Bot, and it helps to keep them apart:
- Bot templates. A shareable copy of a Bot. The Bots guide says to share a template “when someone else should start from the same Bot”. The person who adds it gets their own copy.
- Task templates. Ready-made jobs a Bot can run for you, like the subscription templates in the v0.78.1 changelog.
Either way, the point is the same: start from something that already works.
The new subscription templates (v0.78.1)
The 27 October 2026 release added three templates aimed at the subscriptions everyone forgets about:
| Template | What it does |
|---|---|
| Try it, don’t pay for it | Starts a free trial for you, then cancels it or reminds you before it bills |
| Find unused subscriptions | Cancels the plans you pick from the ones you still pay for |
| Watch subscription prices | Checks your renewal prices |
The same release says Bots can now cancel a subscription or look up its price and renewal date, and they confirm with you before changing anything. For a business with a stack of software tools, Find unused subscriptions is the one to run first.

How to share your Bot as a template
- Click the Bot’s name at the top of the chat to open its details, choose Share, then Create a copy. The Bot builds a template and posts it in the chat.
- Choose Publish on the template card, then Copy link.
- Send the link. The recipient opens a preview on x.ai and chooses Add to Grok Bot. They need the Grok Bot app to finish.
On iPhone and Android, open the Bot’s menu and choose Share as Template. After publishing, the Share menu offers View template details, Update template to push your latest changes, and Delete Template to turn off the link.
What a template includes, and what it doesn’t
| Included | Never included |
|---|---|
| The Bot’s identity and description | Your cloud computer |
| Its skills | Your logins |
| Its routines | Your conversation history |
Here’s the warning that matters. A new template link is public. Anyone with the link can open it and see the Bot’s shared configuration. The docs say to remove API keys, internal URLs, customer data and anything else you wouldn’t put in a public document before you share.
How to add a Bot from a template
To browse, open Connect apps in the sidebar and choose Bot templates. The gallery opens on x.ai in your browser. Open a template link and choose Import Bot to add your own copy.
Shared templates are made by other users, not by Grok Bot, and adding one accepts the third-party bot terms. Read a template’s skills and routines before you let it run on your accounts.

Template vs Shared Bot
Teams often mix these up. The Shared Bots guide draws the line:
| Template | Shared Bot | |
|---|---|---|
| What people get | Their own copy | The same Bot for everyone |
| Each person customises it | Yes | No, the owner configures it |
| Uses whose apps | The new owner’s | The owner’s apps, plus yours if you allow it |
| Best for | Spreading a good setup | One team assistant everyone talks to |
If you want ten people running the same lead-follow-up Bot on their own accounts, use a template. If you want one support Bot the whole team chats with, use a Shared Bot.
Templates on Teams and Enterprise
The Teams and Enterprises guide gives admins a Public template sharing control. Off keeps sharing team-only, and it’s enforced on the server, even for templates that are already public. Enterprise teams start with public sharing off; other teams start with it allowed.
When sharing is limited, the app doesn’t offer Create a copy, and publishing shows Your team doesn't allow public templates or Template sharing is turned off. A team-only link opens only for members of your team. v0.78.1 also lets people on several teams, with none selected, publish a public template when their teams allow it.
A quick alternative: Duplicate
On iPhone you can Duplicate a Bot to reuse a role for a different scope, like one account-health Bot per region. The copy carries the profile, settings, enabled skills, routines and avatar, but not conversation history, learned memory or attachments, so rename it and give it the new scope first.
My verdict
Templates are how you stop rebuilding the same Bot twice. Build one Bot that works, strip anything private, publish it as a template, and let your team or clients start from it. And run the Find unused subscriptions template this week.
