Hermes Notion is now one of the easiest setups in Hermes Agent, because version 0.22 gives you three official ways to plug Hermes into your Notion workspace. You can use the new Connectors feature, add Notion’s hosted MCP server from the built-in catalog, or use the notion skill that ships with Hermes. Each one lets Hermes read your pages, write new ones and work with your databases. In this guide I explain what each option does, which one to pick, and the Notion workflows I’d set up first. Watch the video below, then follow the steps.
Key takeaways
- Three ways in: Connectors (v0.22), the Notion MCP server, or the bundled notion skill.
- Connectors: ask Hermes for Notion, sign in once in the browser, and the tools work in the same turn.
- The skill uses a Notion integration key (
NOTION_API_KEY) and Notion’s officialntnCLI. - Want Notion and Hermes set up for your team? Claim a free strategy session.
What Hermes Notion actually means
Hermes Agent is the open-source AI agent from Nous Research. On its own it can chat, run commands, browse and remember things. Connecting it to Notion means Hermes can also work inside the place where many teams keep their notes, docs, project trackers and wikis.
Once it’s connected, you can ask Hermes things like “summarise this week’s meeting notes”, “turn this chat into a Notion page” or “add these leads to my CRM database”, and it does the work in Notion for you instead of handing you text to copy and paste.
Since Hermes Agent v0.22.0 (14 October 2026) there are three supported ways to do this. They overlap, so the trick is picking the one that matches how you work:
- Connectors — the newest and simplest. Hosted apps, a browser sign-in, no keys to copy.
- The Notion MCP server — Notion’s own hosted MCP endpoint, added from Hermes’ MCP catalog.
- The bundled notion skill — a skill that teaches Hermes to use the Notion API and Notion’s
ntncommand-line tool with your own integration key.
Option 1: Connect Notion with Hermes Connectors
Connectors arrived in v0.22. In Nous’ words, they let the agent act in hosted apps such as Linear and Notion through the Nous tool gateway. The flow is short: you ask Hermes for the app, sign in once in your browser, and the Notion tools are usable in the same turn.
You don’t need a Nous account to start. The first time Hermes manages a connection (or you connect from the Desktop app’s Connectors page) it creates a free Nous identity for you. That identity is only used for connectors and managed tools.
There are three places to manage connections:
- Hermes Desktop: the Connectors page lists hosted apps and MCP servers together. It replaces the old MCP tab.
- The TUI: type
/connectors. The same setup card shows up in the TUI and the CLI. - The CLI:
hermes connectors list, hermes connectors connect notion, andhermes connectors disconnect notion.
Connectors also support several named accounts per app, which is handy if you keep a work Notion and a personal one. Add a second account with hermes connectors connect notion --alias home. Names can be 1–32 characters using lowercase letters, digits or hyphens. There’s no default account — the tools take a connector_alias, so Hermes always knows which workspace it’s writing to. Reconnecting never deletes anything; the old account is kept as retired, and only you can remove accounts.
One more useful detail: connector tools can send local files as attachments and save the files they return, so Hermes can attach a report it made on your machine to a Notion page.

Option 2: Add the Notion MCP server
Hermes has a built-in MCP catalog of hosted remote servers, including Atlassian, Sentry, Notion, Stripe, Vercel and Supabase. In Hermes Desktop these show up as suggestion pills in the composer, so you can add one in a click.
Notion’s hosted MCP endpoint is https://mcp.notion.com/mcp. You can also manage servers from the terminal: hermes mcp catalog shows what’s available, hermes mcp install <name> adds one, and hermes mcp login <server> runs the sign-in for servers that use OAuth.
Why pick MCP over Connectors? If you already run other MCP servers, or you want to choose exactly which tools Hermes can call, MCP gives you that control in one place. If you just want Notion working with the least effort, Connectors is the shorter path.

Option 3: Use the bundled notion skill
Hermes also ships with a notion skill (version 2.0.0, MIT licence) that works on Linux, macOS and Windows. It describes itself as “Notion API + ntn CLI” and covers pages, databases, markdown and Workers.
This route uses your own Notion integration key instead of a hosted sign-in:
- Create an integration at notion.so/my-integrations. The key starts with
ntn_orsecret_. - Save it as
NOTION_API_KEYin~/.hermes/.env. - Share your pages with the integration using the page menu (…) → Connect to. If you skip this, the API returns 404 and Hermes can’t see the page.
On macOS and Linux the skill can also use ntn, Notion’s official CLI. Install it with npm install --global ntn (Node 22 or later) or Notion’s install script, then set NOTION_API_TOKEN=$NOTION_API_KEY and NOTION_KEYRING=0 so it picks up the same key. On Windows the skill uses plain HTTP calls with curl instead.
One thing that trips people up: in the current Notion API (version 2025-09-03), databases are called data sources. If Hermes talks about querying a data source, it means your database.
Which Hermes Notion option should you pick?
| Option | Setup | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Connectors | Ask Hermes or use the Connectors page, sign in once | Most people — fastest, several accounts, no keys |
| Notion MCP server | Add from the MCP catalog, OAuth sign-in | People already running MCP servers who want tool-level control |
| notion skill | Integration key in ~/.hermes/.env, share pages | Self-hosters who want their own key and the ntn CLI |
My advice: start with Connectors. If you later want finer control, add the MCP server. Use the skill when you’d rather not route through the Nous gateway, or you want the extra commands ntn gives you, such as uploading files with ntn files create.
5 Hermes Notion workflows worth setting up
Connecting is the easy part. The value comes from giving Hermes regular jobs. These are the ones I’d start with:
- Meeting notes to action items. Ask Hermes to read a meeting page as markdown, pull out the tasks and add them to your tasks database with owners and due dates.
- Chat to page. When a conversation with Hermes produces something useful — a plan, a brief, an SOP — ask it to save it as a new Notion page from markdown.
- Weekly digest. Use Hermes’ scheduled jobs to query your project database every Friday and write a short status page for the team.
- Lead capture. Have Hermes add each new enquiry from email or chat to a CRM database, so nothing lives only in someone’s inbox.
- Content calendar. Keep ideas in a Notion database and ask Hermes to draft outlines for anything marked “ready”.
Start with one. Once it runs reliably for a week, add the next. That’s how you build an agent your team actually trusts.
Safety tips for Hermes and Notion
- Share only what Hermes needs. With the skill, Hermes can only see pages you connect to the integration. Use that to keep private pages private.
- Use separate accounts for work and home. Named connector accounts keep the two apart.
- Know how to switch it off. Setting
tools.connectors.enabled: falseturns connectors off, andnous.guest: falseturns off the free guest identity. - Disconnect when you’re done.
hermes connectors disconnect notionremoves access.

My verdict on Hermes Notion
Notion is where a lot of business knowledge already lives, so connecting your agent to it is one of the most useful things you can do with Hermes. Connectors make it a two-minute job, the MCP server gives you control, and the skill gives you a self-hosted route. Pick Connectors, set up one workflow, and Hermes Notion starts saving you time this week.

FAQ: hermes notion
How do I connect Hermes to Notion?
The quickest way is Connectors in Hermes Agent v0.22: ask Hermes for Notion, or open the Connectors page in Hermes Desktop, then sign in once in your browser. You can also add the Notion MCP server from the catalog or use the bundled notion skill with an integration key.
Do I need a Nous account to use Hermes with Notion?
No. The first time you connect an app, Hermes creates a free Nous identity for you. It’s used only for connectors and managed tools.
Why does Hermes get a 404 error from Notion?
With the notion skill, a 404 usually means the page hasn’t been shared with your integration. Open the page menu, choose Connect to and pick your integration.
Can Hermes use two Notion workspaces?
Yes. Connectors support several named accounts per app, for example work and home. Add one with hermes connectors connect notion –alias home.
Can Hermes edit Notion databases?
Yes. Hermes can query and add entries to Notion databases, which the current Notion API calls data sources. It can also read pages as markdown and create new pages from markdown.
