Is there a Grok Bot free trial? For some accounts, yes, but it works differently from most app trials. Per the official FAQ, the trial is a usage credit with a 7-day window, and it never turns into a paid plan. The App Store trial on iPhone is a separate thing that Apple runs, and Android has no in-app trial at all. The 27 October changelog also changed what some screens show. Below is exactly how each one works, how to make the credit last, how to cancel, and the new template that handles free trials of other services for you. My video is right under this intro.
Key takeaways
- Some accounts see Start Trial on the access screen: a usage credit plus a 7-day window.
- It never turns into a paid plan, and used credit isn’t restored.
- An App Store trial is Apple’s, and it converts to paid unless you cancel first.
- Android has no in-app trial.

Is there a Grok Bot free trial?
The FAQ answer: some accounts can try Grok Bot before they pay. When the access screen offers Start Trial, choose it. Not every account gets the offer.
The v0.78.1 changelog (27 October 2026) adds a change: where Grok Bot used to offer a free trial, it now offers Get Grok Bot with a unified plan and See Unified Plans. So if you don’t see Start Trial, that’s why.
Grok Bot also isn’t a separate subscription. The Get started docs say it’s included with Premium, Super and Ultra on The X Subscription and with paid legacy Cursor plans, and you can link an individual SuperGrok or X Premium+ subscription. Check the current plans on the official pages; I don’t quote prices here.
How the usage-credit trial works
- The trial is a usage credit, and a 7-day window also applies.
- It never turns into a paid plan, so there’s no surprise charge from the trial itself.
- The credit is used up by how much work your agents do, measured by agent steps and tokens, not by how many messages you send.
- One big task can use all of it, and used credit isn’t restored.
Grok (the chat app) and Grok Bot are two different apps, so a SuperGrok paywall or weekly limit in the Grok app is not about Grok Bot.

How to make the trial credit last
The FAQ’s advice is to start small, scope tasks tightly and check usage before big jobs. In practice:
- Give the Bot one clear, small task first, such as summarising one inbox label, not “clean up my whole business”.
- Check your usage on the plan screen before anything long-running.
- Save a working task as a skill instead of re-explaining it; see Grok Bot skills.
- Leave big scheduled routines until you’re on a plan.
How to cancel the Grok Bot free trial
Cancel Trial appears on free-plan accounts, and there’s no charge to cancel:
- Desktop: Settings → Usage & Billing → Cancel Trial.
- iPhone and Android: Settings → Usage → Cancel Trial.
- Cancelling removes any remaining trial credit, and you can’t start the trial again.
- On a paid plan or a Teams seat, the trial ends on its own.
App Store and Android trials
Phone trials follow the store’s rules, per the mobile docs:
- iPhone: an App Store free trial (intro offer) is run by Apple and turns into a paid Apple subscription unless you cancel first. Cancel in Apple ID → Subscriptions before it ends.
- Android: there is no in-app trial. Google Play handles in-app subscriptions under Payments & subscriptions.
- Only monthly individual plans are sold in the mobile app, and Cursor can’t cancel or refund an in-app plan for you.
- If you already have access from a plan or a SuperGrok link, don’t buy a second subscription in the app.

Bonus: let your Bot handle other free trials
The same 27 October update added templates for the trials and subscriptions you have elsewhere:
- Try it, don’t pay for it starts a free trial for you and cancels it, or reminds you, before it bills.
- Find unused subscriptions cancels plans you pick from the ones you still pay for.
- Watch subscription prices checks renewal prices.
- Bots can cancel a subscription or look up its renewal date, and confirm with you before changing anything.
See my Grok Bot templates guide for setting them up.
My verdict
If you see Start Trial, take it, but treat the credit as limited: small, scoped tasks first, and watch your usage. On iPhone, remember Apple’s trial converts to paid unless you cancel. Used that way, the Grok Bot free trial tells you fast whether a Bot fits your work.

How long is the Grok Bot free trial?
The trial is a usage credit, and a 7-day window also applies. The credit can run out sooner, because it is used by agent steps and tokens, not messages.
Does the Grok Bot trial turn into a paid plan?
No. The usage-credit trial never turns into a paid plan. An App Store trial started in the iPhone app is different: Apple converts it to a paid subscription unless you cancel first.

On a free plan, choose Cancel Trial in Settings, Usage and Billing on desktop or Settings, Usage on iPhone and Android. It costs nothing, removes remaining credit and can’t be restarted.

No. The mobile docs say Android has no in-app trial. The usage-credit trial claimed on web or desktop is separate.
Is Grok Bot a separate subscription?
